Half a Million Dollars in Pecans: The 56th Annual Women of Hope Pecan Sale
Every fall for fifty-six years, the Women of Hope Circles have sold pecans to pay for missions.
That is very nearly the whole operation — an order form, a pick-up weekend in November, and several hundred pounds of fresh-crop nuts moved by a group of women who have never made much noise about it. The arithmetic has added up to more than half a million dollars.
Where the money actually goes
Every dollar of profit leaves the church. Over the years it has gone to ECHO, Family Promise, Hope for Her, Mary & Martha House, Choices, ZOE, and Feeding Tampa Bay — organizations feeding people in Brandon, housing families without a home, and walking with women in some of the hardest seasons of their lives.
If you have ever wondered what a five-pound box of pecans has to do with any of that: it buys a night of shelter, a bag of groceries, an afternoon of counseling. It has done so about five hundred thousand dollars' worth of times.
Here's the part worth saying plainly
The name throws people. "Women of Hope Circles" sounds like it belongs to one group, and in a sense it does — they run it, every year, without help. But the missions it funds are the ones this whole church supports.
Neighbors and coworkers all over Brandon order these every fall. If you have never ordered a box, this is a good year to start.
The sale just happens to be run by a group of women who have never made a fuss about it.
So this year, consider this the fuss.
What people do with them
Pie is the obvious answer, and it is nowhere near the only one. Every year somebody turns these into candied pecans over a salad, or a bourbon pecan bread, or the thing their grandmother used to make that no one has managed to reproduce since.

Orders close Saturday, October 24. Only prepaid orders are reserved — anything not prepaid is first come, first served on pick-up day, and the popular sizes go quickly.
Picking up
Saturday, November 14 and Monday, November 16, 8 AM to 5 PM both days.
New Hope Life Center, 213 N. Knights Ave., Brandon. Enter at the gym on the south side — a quarter mile north of Route 60, just north of the Sanctuary — and look for the Pecan Sale signs.
Two things to know: there are no holds in the church office, so please come on one of those two days. And no credit cards on pick-up days — card payment is for prepaid online orders only.
