Work Hard, Serve Well
Your work ethic during the small moments often says more about your faith than words ever could.
Theme: Work Hard, Serve Well
Verse: "Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, 'children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.' Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky." (Philippians 2:14-15)
One of the defining moments of the 1980 U.S. Men's hockey team's incredible run to the gold medal came after a WIN in an exhibition game against Norway. Despite the victory, Coach Herb Brooks believed his team lacked intensity and focus. After the game, he kept the players on the ice for what many later described as the most brutal conditioning session of their Olympic journey.
That difficult moment taught the team an unforgettable lesson: take nothing for granted, train hard, and don't complain. Your work ethic and the name you represent matter.
As Christians, we are called to approach life with that same attitude. Whether at work, at school, on the field, or at home, we represent God and His Son Jesus Christ to the world around us. People notice how we respond under pressure, how we treat others, and whether our actions match our faith.
There are many ways to "work hard," and not all of them involve physical labor or professional success. Sometimes the hardest work is learning to become more compassionate, patient, and willing to serve others. It means seeing the world through the eyes of others instead of focusing only on ourselves.
God has blessed many of us in countless ways, yet there are still people around us carrying heavy burdens. Sometimes serving well means making time for a struggling single parent, encouraging someone who feels alone, or helping a widow or widower adjust to life after losing a lifelong partner.
We all have limits, and we need to respect them. But within those limits, we should do what we can for as many people as we can. And we should do it cheerfully and without complaint, because in those moments we are living out the purpose God has placed before us.
Our attitude and work ethic during those moments often say more about our faith than words ever could.
As we continue our lifelong journey to become more Christlike, we should remember that Jesus modeled this servant-hearted life perfectly, giving Himself fully for others without complaint.
Have a GREAT week!
