One of the most joyful steps in the Christian life.
What baptism is
We consider baptism a sacrament — a visible, tangible sign of God's grace at work in us. It's an act of God: the water is a picture of cleansing and new life, the old washed away and a new life in Jesus begun. For those old enough to choose it, baptism is a public declaration — "I follow Jesus, and I'm committing my life to him."
Who baptism is for
Babies and young children. We baptize infants and children because in baptism God is doing the work — claiming that child for Jesus Christ. Their parents make a public commitment to raise them in faith and model what it means to follow Jesus, until one day the child is ready to make that commitment their own.
Older children and adults. When someone old enough to decide is baptized, it's a sign of new life in Christ and a public "yes" to following Jesus — a beautiful marker of a life made new.
Remembering your baptism. A lot of life happens between the day you were baptized and today. Remembering your baptism is a wonderful way to recommit your life to Jesus and declare again that you belong to him.
Baptism is one of our two sacraments (along with Holy Communion) — signs of God's grace that we take seriously and celebrate together.
