Back to the Beginning: Daily Dose of Hope Enters Genesis & Exodus on August 5
Some books of the Bible you visit. Genesis and Exodus are more like foundations — you do not visit them so much as discover that everything else in Scripture is built on top of them.
When the Psalms speak of creation, they assume you know Genesis. When Paul writes about justification, he goes back to Abraham. When the Gospel writers introduce Jesus, they reach for Exodus language. When Revelation closes out the story, it pulls from images that began in the garden. The New Testament assumes you know these books — not just their famous verses, but their shape.
Starting Wednesday, August 5, Daily Dose of Hope begins a slow, chapter-by-chapter walk through both.
What This Deep Dive Covers
The Genesis section runs from August 5 through mid-October — from the creation account in Genesis 1 through the end of Joseph's story in Genesis 50.
The Exodus section picks up in late October and carries through December 16 — from Moses's birth through the construction of the tabernacle in the wilderness.
These are not chapters to sprint through. They are chapters to sit with.
What Genesis Gives You
Genesis is the book of firsts — first creation, first sin, first covenant, first sacrifice, first promise. It is also the book of a God who keeps pursuing the people he made, through broken families, long silences, desperate prayers, and an unbroken chain of ordinary people who chose, however imperfectly, to trust him.
Abraham leaves everything for a land he has never seen. Jacob wrestles with God through the night. Joseph is sold into slavery by his brothers and spends years in prison before the story turns. Every generation in Genesis is struggling with the same question: is God actually trustworthy?
The answer, told across fifty chapters, is yes — not without difficulty, and not without waiting, but yes.
What Exodus Gives You
Exodus is the book of rescue.
Slavery in Egypt. A burning bush that is not consumed. Ten plagues. A parted sea. A people who have never been free learning what it means to belong to a God who saved them.
Then the law at Sinai — not as a burden but as a gift, a way of living that marks a people as belonging to the God who brought them out. Then the golden calf, and the mercy that follows. Then the tabernacle — an elaborate, detailed, architectural declaration that God wants to dwell with his people.
These are the texts that give the rest of Scripture its vocabulary for grace, deliverance, law, worship, presence, and redemption.
A Good Time to Begin
