Love Like God
Loving others starts with loving God first.
Verse: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” — John 13:34–35 (NIV)
We all have people in our lives whom we love deeply—family, spouses, teammates, church members, even workout partners or coworkers. These relationships matter, and they deserve our care and attention. But it’s important to recognize that not all love is created equal. Sometimes, what the world calls “love” is rooted in insecurity, selfishness, or personal gain. And because we’re human, we’re bound to make mistakes—judgments that lead to broken hearts, emotional pain, and strained connections.
Thankfully, God offers us a better way. He gives us a blueprint for love that begins with Him. Deuteronomy reminds us to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” When we start there—loving God fully—we gain clarity and strength to love others well.
God’s love is unconditional. It’s not based on what someone can do for us, but on a deep, unwavering commitment to care for them without expecting anything in return. That kind of love is rare in the world. Only Jesus lived it perfectly. But the good news is, God isn’t asking for perfection—He’s inviting us to grow closer to that ideal every day.
Jesus showed us how to love: with humility, compassion, and grace. So let’s begin in our own homes, then extend that love to our teams, teachers, coworkers, and communities. When we put God first, He leads us in how to love others. And as we follow His lead, we’ll witness His love transforming not just our relationships—but the world around us.
