"Journey of Stones: Rejected Stones” | Rev. Vicki Harrison
Have you ever felt overlooked? Dismissed? Like you didn’t quite fit where you thought you belonged? In our Journey of Stones series, Rev. Vicki Harrison’s message, “Rejected Stones,” reminds us that what the world rejects, God often redeems for something far greater. When Stones Tell a Story
If you’ve ever seen pictures of the Holy Land, you know there are stones everywhere—large stones, small stones, stones that look ordinary and stones that seem significant. Scripture often uses stones to tell a deeper story.
In Psalm 118:22 and echoed in the New Testament, we read:
“The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.”
Rev. Vicki reminded us that this isn’t just poetic language—it’s the Gospel. Jesus Himself was rejected. Dismissed. Crucified. And yet, He became the very foundation upon which our faith stands.
Key Takeaways:
God uses what others overlook.
The stone deemed unfit by the builders became the most important stone in the structure. What feels like rejection may actually be redirection.
Rejection does not define your worth.
Jesus’ rejection led to redemption for the world. If Christ was rejected and still chosen by God, we can trust that our setbacks are not the end of the story.
The cornerstone sets alignment.
In ancient construction, the cornerstone determined the stability and direction of the entire building. When Jesus is our cornerstone, He aligns our identity, purpose, and future.
Rev. Vicki also prayed boldly over our lives and our world—naming suffering in places like the Middle East and Cuba—and reminding us that Christ is “Lord of all… Lord of every nation… Lord of the cosmos.” The rejected stone is not weak. He is sovereign.
From Rejection to Purpose
Maybe you’ve experienced rejection in relationships, work, family, or even church. The question is not “Why was I rejected?” but “What might God be building?”
When we place Jesus as our cornerstone:
We build our lives on truth rather than approval.
We measure our worth by God’s calling, not culture’s standards.
We become living stones, shaped and placed intentionally in God’s design.
What area of your life feels discarded right now? Could it be the very place God wants to establish something strong?
This week, take time to reflect and pray:
Is Jesus truly the cornerstone of my decisions, identity, and future?

Know. Grow. Go.
At New Hope, our mission is simple: Know Jesus. Grow Faith. Go Multiply!
When we know Jesus as our cornerstone, we grow in confidence and stability. And as we grow, we are sent to multiply—helping others discover that rejection is not the end of their story either.
This is part of our 2026 vision: to reach the lost and empower future generations through a multi-ethnic movement of disciples who make disciples.
